Lisa is the Regional Lead for Advanced Practice in the South West. She is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at UHBW, Bristol since 2005. Areas of special interest include: Postgraduate Medical/Health Education, Workforce planning & development, multi-disciplinary team development and Point of Care USS. Regional & National roles: Associate Postgraduate Dean for Workforce Transformation NHSE SW (WT&E), Clinical Lead Faculty for Advancing Practice NHSE SW (WT&E). Regional Clinical Adviser Urgent and Emergency Care NHSE SW. Past Vice President Royal College of Emergency Medicine 2016 – 2022.
Girish Lakhanpal
Regional Deputy Lead for Advanced Practice

Girish is the Regional Deputy Lead for Advanced Practice. His role involves ensuring the day to day running of the South West Advanced Practice Faculty, including overseeing finance, comms and data. In addition to this I work closely with the education providers across the South West to ensure they can meet the demand of the trainee advanced practitioner workforce that we support.
Lou Buckle
Advanced Practice Education and Development Specialist Lead

Lou is the Advanced Practice Education & Development Specialist Lead. Her role provides support across the region to systems, organisations, training hubs and services as required on what advanced practice is, how it can support workforce transformation, service delivery and patient pathways. Her role also helps our partners with developing governance structures and processes to support advanced practice roles. Lou is a registered nurse and has a clinical background as an advanced practitioner working across a variety of unscheduled care settings.
Martin Nelson
Advanced Practice Education and Training Development Lead

Martin is the supervision and assessment lead for Radiography, Oncology and End of Life Care. He is a registered Diagnostic Radiographer with over 30 years of experience in diagnostic imaging and reporting. He has held a variety of leadership roles, utilizing these opportunities for developing and expanding clinical practice. His current role is education lead for the Cardiac Ultrasound department at a tertiary unit, with an Advanced practice element, that he has held for the last 12 years. Working outside of the traditional Radiography environment has allowed him to work with other professional groups assisting them with their chosen areas of development. Martin is enthusiastic about communicating knowledge, seeing connections, and breaking down traditional barriers.
Sharon Wade
Advanced Practice Education and Training Development Lead

Sharon is currently one of the Southwest faculty Advanced Practice Education and Training Development Leads. She has a special interest in surgery and frailty and am the go-to person for these specialities. Until recently Sharon worked as a Consultant Nurse at Gloucestershire hospitals NHS Trust in Trauma and Orthopaedics. She has also worked in theatres and recovery/high dependency units. She is keen to develop our advanced practice workforce to benefit patient care throughout the patient pathway.
Steve Blakeway
Advanced Practice Education and Training Development Lead

Steve is the Supervision and Assessment Lead for Nurses and Paramedics in Primary Care in the South West. He still works clinically within Primary Care as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) (Nurse) and has experience of working as a Lead ACP and Work-Based Supervisor. During his 18 years in the NHS he has experience including Acute Secondary Clinical Care and Clinical Hospital Site Leadership in addition to more recent senior PCN leadership roles. Steve is also a founding member of the Devon Local Medical Committee for Advanced Practice. He is passionate about standardizing, championing and supporting learners with their development which he sees as pivotal in supporting and enhancing Primary Care service provision in the South West and beyond.
James Cook
Advanced Practice Education and Training Development Lead

James is one of the Advanced Practice Education & Training Development Leads focusing on learning disability, autism and mental health. He is a learning disability nurse, and continues to work clinically within a Community Paediatric service. James has worked for several years as an Advanced Practitioner, and has recently completed a national pathway to develop into a Consultant Practitioner position. He has a background working across community learning disability and CAMHS services. James is passionate about the role that advanced practice has in reducing health inequalities across our healthcare system, particularly with early intervention and health promotion.
Heather Munro
Educational Delivery Project Support Officer

Heather is the Educational Delivery Project Support Officer. She supports the team and collaborates with external stakeholders to develop advanced practice education and workforce transformation throughout our region. Her role includes supporting daily operations, optimizing processes and managing resources. Additionally, she helps manage Faculty finances and contributes to the development, publication, and promotion of all Faculty communications.
Louise Bowen
Education Design Project Support Officer

Louise is the Education Design Project Support Officer for Advanced Practice in the South West. Her role involves supporting the team with administrative tasks and helping to manage trainee records. Additionally, Louise works with trainee information to support quality improvement and planning, playing a key role supporting all Faculty projects and processes.
