Professor Sheona Macleod is NHS England’s Director of Education and Training. She worked clinically as a General Practitioner for 26 years, an Occupational Health Advisor to a number of regional industries, as Clinical Assistant in the local community hospital, and as a Medical Officer for Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) service. She was appointed as GP Dean in 2009 and Postgraduate Dean in September 2012. She was also the Regional Director of Education and Quality from 2013 to 2014 and was appointed as Deputy Medical Director in October 2017. Sheona covered the Interim Medical Director and Director of Education and Quality role in HEE during the COVID-19 Pandemic in 2020 and was responsible for the successful development and delivery of COVID 19 Training Recovery programme. Sheona shares the Director of Education and Training role with Professor Mark Radford and together they lead the multiprofessional team responsible for healthcare education and training in England.

Katie is an accomplished Therapeutic Radiographer, having worked as a Gynaecological Advanced Radiographer at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals (NNUHFT), where she made significant strides in standardised minimum capabilities, role development, job planning, and job descriptions across various professions, not just therapeutic radiography, ensuring robust governance of advanced roles throughout the Trust. In 2017, she advanced into a Consultant Brachytherapy post.
Katie leads the East of England Regional Advanced Practice Faculty, where she has been committed to evaluating and improving advancing practice with positive outcome for practitioners and patients alike.
Katie is set to transition from her current role as Regional Faculty Lead in the East of England to become the Head of Multiprofessional Advanced Practice, beginning Mid-December. Joy has a strong interest in lung disease, the care of those with lung disease, respiratory physiology and pathophysiology and lung imaging. Following qualification as a chartered physiotherapist and a Masters in Rehabilitation (University of Southampton) her PhD (University of Southampton) investigated the use of three-dimensional lung imaging techniques to quantify inhaled aerosol deposition in the lung and structural and functional changes that occur with disease. Kirsty qualified as an adult nurse in 2004 where she began her career working in medical admissions and coronary care. She then progressed to be one of the first critical care outreach sisters within the trust, and this is where she embarked on her MSc in Advanced Practice. Kirsty successfully secured her first ACP post in 2012.

In 2014, Melanie joined Sheffield Hallam University (SHU) after several years of serving as a secondee educator. Her role at SHU has grown to encompass Advanced Practice, with a focus on Therapeutic Radiography. Prior to joining the University of Suffolk in 2020 she was the Executive Director of Quality at East Coast Community Healthcare. She is currently working as the Associate Dean for Research & Knowledge Exchange in the school of Nursing & Midwifery and is the theme lead for long term conditions within the Institute of Health & Wellbeing. Throughout her nursing career, she has worked in close collaboration with other organisations, as a Non-Executive Director, Trustee on Cancer Charity Boards, and in the development and leadership of research programmes.

Payal qualified as an occupational therapist in 2001 from The University of Salford and subsequently worked within a general medical and surgical rotation before securing a static post within stroke and general rehabilitation. She was then appointed to a Band 7 post in Intermediate Care in Oldham where she worked for 10 years. During this time, she was AHP and Transfer of Care Team Lead and gained valuable strategic, leadership and operational management experience and skill.
Payal regards completing her MSc Advanced Practice in 2017 at the University of Bolton as one of her greatest achievements. It ignited her passion for promoting AHP’s within advanced practice and advocating occupational therapists within MSc Advanced Clinical Practice roles.
Currently, she works as part of the Crisis Team for Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the clinical management of acutely unwell patients within the community. The team works closely with the North West Ambulance Service and community, A&E and GPs to avoid unnecessary hospital admissions. Combining therapeutic and advanced practice core skills allows Payal to provide high-quality care to patients and reduces duplication and delays in urgent assessment.

Prof Crouch has significant clinical leadership experience having led the Emergency Department nursing team at UHS for over 2 decades, and in Trust wide leadership role as Deputy Director of Major Trauma at University Hospital Southampton (2017 -2020). He has contributed significantly to the development of advanced roles, in particular the Royal College of Emergency Medicine Advanced Clinical Practitioner programme. He has an interest in pre-hospital care; he previously worked as Consultant Practitioner with the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance service HEMS team; he now contributes as a Community First Responder for Southwest Ambulance Service. Working with NHS England, he has contributed to the national development framework for advanced practice and is the NHS England Senior Clinical Lead for Multiprofessional consultant level practice. He has been involved in workforce development for over 3 decades and has served on numerous national groups involved in multidisciplinary workforce development in Emergency Care. He was a member of the NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Major Trauma. He is recognised a clinical academic and has published extensively in peer reviewed journals. He is a member of the International Emergency Nursing Editorial Board and Reviewer Advisory Group of the Emergency Medicine Journal. Prof Crouch is one of the Editors of the Oxford Handbook of Emergency Nursing. He has held a number of significant research grants and is currently the research lead for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance. Robert’s wealth of experience and contributions make him a leading voice in emergency care, consultant practice, and clinical education.

Sarah Meenan is a dedicated Paediatric Advanced Clinical Practitioner based in the Midlands region, with extensive experience across various clinical settings, including General Paediatrics, Accident and Emergency, ITU, and Community. Since embarking on her advanced practice journey in Paediatric Cardiac Intensive Care in 2010, Sarah has developed a strong passion for advancing clinical practice. She has a keen interest in Simulation and Human Factors and is currently pursuing a Post Graduate Certificate in Human Factors for Patient Safety. Sarah is committed to enhancing patient care through innovative practices and collaborative approaches in paediatric healthcare.

Suzanne Owens is a Consultant Nurse and Advanced Practice Professional Lead at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals, overseeing around 300 multi-professional APs. With over 24 years of experience in Emergency Departments across the UK and Australia, she has been an AP in South Yorkshire for the past 19 years. Suzanne holds an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice from the University of Nottingham and is an NMC-registered teacher and Advanced Life Support Instructor. She is passionate about education, with experience developing a range of educational courses for Advanced Practitioners across all four pillars, and is a currently a visiting fellow at Sheffield Hallam University.
In her leadership role, Suzanne has contributed to developing ACP governance structures, including the CASP appraisal tool, aligned with national frameworks. She also supports regional and national ACP projects, including curriculum development, and chairs the South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw ACP Community of Practice.
Outside of her NHS work, Suzanne is also a trustee of Concussion Legacy Foundation UK and works in the Professional Football Association Brain Health Department. Her advocacy for brain health is driven by her father, Billy McEwan, a former professional footballer who lived with Parkinson’s and dementia, later found to be caused by Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). His diagnosis, confirmed after his brain was donated to research in 2022, inspired Suzanne to raise awareness and support the prevention, research, and treatment of concussion
