This presentation will explore the findings of a comprehensive systematic review on racial bias in healthcare and healthcare education. The review, which analysed 45 studies from 2014 to 2024, uncovered a self-perpetuating cycle of racial bias encompassing disparities in healthcare access, perceived discrimination and medical mistrust, provider bias and stereotyping, educational inequities, and lack of literature representation.

The session will delve into the definition, manifestations and impact of racial bias in these settings and then analyse the significant racial disparities observed across various medical specialties and highlight the underrepresentation of racial minorities in medical imagery and educational content. By examining these interconnected themes, we aim to demonstrate the impact of racial bias on clinical outcomes and propose strategies to optimise the effectiveness of our multiprofessional workforce in addressing health inequities.
